Interviewing Stormy

Hello everyone and welcome back to my parlour! We’re here again with yet another wonderful guest! He’s one of the most supportive and kind people in the community, and I’m happy to have him here today! I’m talking about Stormy!! Welcome and thank you for accepting my invitation!

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you, Elena (Kylara) for starting this wonderful project and keeping it going through all the hardships with a smile. It’s my honor to be here with you and River!

First thing first, as for everyone of our fellow gamers, how did you end up in the videogame world?

How did I end up in the videogame world… not quite like Wreck it Ralph, but it started there… When I was younger, about 6-7 years old, my friend and I had discovered an arcade store at the very corner of the market, hidden away from the common eye. We stumbled upon it by chance but I’m glad we did. At this time, I was still in India so whenever I would get some pocket change, my friend and I would make our way to the arcade. We would spend our entire weekend afternoons glued to Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, racing games, and of course good old Mario.

What was the first game that made you fall deeply in love?

It’s WoW, I could say that now with confidence… it’s as if all the other games led me to it. From the moment I first encountered my cousin playing a DK in the Frozen Wastes of Northrend back in 2008, I was hooked. I played other games at this time like Halo, Super Smash bros, Golden Eye, Star Fox, Pokemon Coliseum and a whole plethora of Nintendo 64 games that I could find every other weekend in my cousin’s basement. But none of them made me yearn for each visit like that chilling login screen with Wrath of the Lich King soundtrack and Sindragosa in the background. I would like to add that in 2007, I came to US from India, so these were also big cultural learning years for me and these visits were my escape to happiness. He would let me play his character for a bit but that was it and then we’d have to log off soon. I wanted to play it myself but I wasn’t allowed to have video games with the aunt I lived with. We were brought up to focus mainly on our studies and play outside.

When did you create your very own account?

I want to say I created my very own account back in 2014 without my aunt’s knowledge. I used my savings from birthdays and religious holidays and bought the standard box set. I vividly remember that WoW was having it’s 10th anniversary and we were on vacation at this time, I wanted to login and do whatever I had to do to get the anniversary Corehound mount. I recall my aunt being very upset with me and I had to return it within the week. So my account was created, a starter account at that, but I didn’t actually get to play and really have access to my account till the end of my senior year in high school. I was working at this time at the local hospital but I was still not allowed to login much until I went off to college towards the end of 2014.

What made you stay so loyal to the game for so many years?

It was the lore I think, I really loved the fantasy aspect of WoW. Also might have been due to R.A. Salvatore’s book series Legend of Drizzt that sparked my interest in getting to know more about the lives of these mysterious and enchanting characters. If anyone loves elves and magic, I highly recommend the series. Now that I think about it, his elves resemble more of the Nightborne than the Night elves we’ve come to know. Going back to WoW, it has many rich stories about characters and struggles that resonated with my own struggles and saved me many times from despair and gave me hope. I really am taken by Jaina’s story in particular… a noble heart, with just cause, trying her best to please her family and do right by the world at the same time yet she’s betrayed by both… we learn that from each setback throughout the expansions, she has always looked on the brighter side and held hope despite there being none and I think that is a lesson we can all take to heart and learn from. I’ve had to pause WoW for a while during college but I would get on and check what was going on and level my hunter when I could or if I was waiting in between classes.

What is your favorite in-game activity?

Hmm. probably doing mythic+ and arenas now. There was a time I enjoyed raiding and being raid lead but due to time constraints and other responsibilities, I’ve had to sit back. Not to mention the guild dramas… to the point I’m still on the fence on joining new guilds to this day. Most of my toons are in their own respective banks guilds now.

Shadowlands is almost here, what is the first thing you can’t wait to do once it drops?

I wish I could sleep for a week but I know that won’t happen with my gimpy ass and flare ups. But what I am looking forward to is making gold, like seriously this time. I was barely able to get my Long Boi in time with some help. It was also a new feeling to be able to help my close friends get some mounts that they wanted, so if I had more gold to spare, I could help more people in theory at least. I recently moved to New York from Michigan, still adjusting to city life but I can say I enjoy it here. Once I start working again and have a solid schedule, I want to do all aspects of the game with a focus on M+, arenas, and gold making. I also want to eventually start streaming but who knows when that will happen, lol! Still working on a setup atm.

Are there any other games you play at the moment?

If I had the time, I could wip out my handy Nintendo 3Ds and replay through Pokemon X and Y. But really, I haven’t really touched other games, I’ve recently dabbled into Destiny with some friends and for a little while Final Fantasy with @Sky.nyx and @stormsiren308. When I was in high school, I would occasionally play Need for Speed or Monster Legends just to pass time but that was it. I have wondered when the day will come when I get bored of WoW or the Devs stop releasing expansions. It is probably the day I stop playing it altogether but there is still so much to do in-game that there is really never a down time so to speak. Yes, it helps if you have friends who play the game to keep you company but I got into the game for the love of it and without really knowing anyone at the beginning. It always humbles me when I see my friend’s list compared to the starred friends to put into perspective how far I’ve come and who are still dear to me.

What does “gaming” mean to you?

Gaming… it never really meant much to me if I’m being honest with myself. First thing that comes to mind is that it’s more of a “privilege” thing due to my upbringing. Besides that, I feel fortunate to even spend my free time doing what I enjoy and express myself. Yeah, that’s it… it’s where you can really express your true self without much thought or disdain for being you, a sanctuary if you will. You get to meet other unique and wonderful souls around the world that you probably could not, through this common medium “gaming”, and connect with them on a more personal level. To me, this is more meaningful and the friendships I’ve made are proof enough of this connection. I’m more of an introvert or hermit but I’m learning that it’s okay to be me thanks to friends like you (Kylara) and many others in our amazing IG community.

Speaking of which, how did you end up joining the IG gaming community?

I really wasn’t going to join IG because I thought it was only for influencers and models. But I made an account to help promote a friend’s stream from work, and what an easy way to do it. One of the first few people I came across were Jenesis, Alivaera, and You that convinced me to make my IG page more dedicated to WoW. Happy to say I had an amazing and kind line up friends who nudged me and encouraged me in the right direction.

Do you have a message for our friends?

We are going through tough times atm and I’d like each and everyone one of us to take a step back: try to be ourselves, learn something new, and take time to be kind to one another and really try to get to know them more than just hear say/rumors. There are many amazing people in our community and new ones joining daily, reach out to them and help those you can. You never know, you might learn a thing or two from them. I really wish I could play with my friends on EU and across the world, but sadly that’s not really possible. So any and all of our interactions should be with proper consideration and respect. You never know what someone has gone through or may still be going through behind that smile.

And now one of the most difficult questions of all, who is the person behind the account?

You mean to ask if it’s a Night Elf hunter or human?! Unfortunately, it’s a  26 human male, born in India and raised in the US after 11 years of age. I go by Stormy, which is my dear friend’s name from elementary school days but my real name is Nadeem to those that know me and my friends. But in all seriousness, I’m just like everyone…. there is nothing special about me or my hobbies. I am a Muslim, so hopefully that answered some questions to those that wondered but never got around to asking me because of the no religion, polictics, and all that tradechat mumbo jumbo. I work to pay bills and support my Mom who is still in India. I have 2 younger siblings, both in college studying medicine. I recently moved again, so it’s a restart of sorts, this time more permanent and from scratch from my previous moves. I’m still in the midst of deciding a career path, pursuing my love of the arts (drawing, trying my hand at digital drawing) or trying to go into game development, which I also like but do not really enjoy the tedious aspect to it. I’m more of a give me a paper and pencil type of person than sit and stare at a screen all day long. I’m a really laid back type of person… lazy to a stretch but will get done what needs to get done. If any of you have questions about the particulars or the nitty gritty, you can DM me @14szafer on IG. Don’t worry, it’ll take a lot to offend me.

And the very last question of all, who are three members of the gaming community you would like to see as my guests?

This is very tough for me… Arrgh, so many great people!  I would like to see the Squall herself; Jenesis, the kind, green eyed mermaid Mirialani, and how about the Rave Queen Fexxalicious? I chose these guests over many other great ones because each of them are quite unique but they all embrace their true selves and strive towards their best versions and they bring positivity, uplifting others wherever they go.

And with this our interview has come to an end! Thank you very much for accepting my invitation and for being such a great friend!

You too, thank you for considering me for such a great honor, I had fun and actually got to relax for a bit as an excuse. High five to my Fibro-buddy, hehe!

And thank you all for joining and Unidess for the constant support and help! See you all soon with another guest!! Stay safe and have a wonderful time!
